Macam – macam Microsoft Licensing :
OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturers -> Paling murah -> Mendapatkan sticker & cd installer, hanya dapat diinstall di 1 komputer (mis: komp a), apabila komp a, diupgrade harddisknya, atau komp a di jual dan di ganti komp baru (mis: komp b), maka sticker dan cd installer tersebut tidak boleh digunakan di komp B, walaupun cd installer OEM tersebut bisa diinstall di komputer B, tetapi hal ini termasuk illegal, karena S/N (serial number) OEM terdaftar di microsoft untuk spesifikasi hardware untuk komp A. Serial number OEM terikat dengan spesifikasi hardware komputer yang diinstall pertama kali.

OLP: Open Licensed Product -> dari harga yang tercantum diatas hanya mendapatkan sertifikat, client harus beli CD Media 1 buah untuk dapat instalasi sebanyak license komp yang dibeli. -> Serial number OLP terikat dengan keterangan data-data pembeli (nama, dll). Contoh Kasus: CD Installer OLP diinstall di komp A, suatu saat komp A dijual dan membeli komp B, maka CD Installer OLP dapat diinstall di komp B -> legal.
